Announcement from Narashino Catholic Church, parish priest

May the Peace of the Lord be with you all.

May the resurrection of the Lord be the foundation of our faith and the hope of our lives.

Today, April 25th, the Japanese government declared a coronavirus state of emergency for Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo.  The term is currently to be 17 days long and last through May 11th.  Although Chiba Prefecture is not included in the declaration, as a parish of the Archdiocese of Tokyo, its’ influence is unavoidable.

1. On Thursday, April 29th, from 2 PM, the ceremony to ordain priests will be held in the Cathedral as a private mass, behind closed doors.  Deacon Oda, who served at Narashino Parish last year will be ordained, and representatives of the Narashino Parish management committee and church school were scheduled to attend the ceremony.  The Church school children also wrote messages for him beforehand on April 11th and those were supposed to be given to Deacon Oda after the ceremony through the leader of the Church School.  Unfortunately, due to the state of emergency announcement by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, attendance will be restricted to the head priest and one representative from Narashino Parish.  It is very unfortunate that the school leader will not be able to attend.  Please pray for Deacon Oda to grow and be strong in difficult situations.

2. Today is the 4th Sunday of Easter and also "Vocation Sunday".  The gospel of this day is always recited in the words of Jesus, "I am a good shepherd." (John 10).  As the Lord Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest”. (Matthew 9: 37-38) We must pray for the calling of priests, but to be a good shepherd is not only the efforts of the priest himself.  It is also the work of God.  So, please pray for all priests, including me.  Thank you in advance for your kind prayers.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray from my heart now.

In these current times of great difficulty,

please help all priests who work so tirelessly for you Lord.

May they have gratitude and joy until the end.

Grant them the ability to fulfill your precious mission.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.  Amen.
